Paul to the Phillippians and commentary, chapter 4

To: People Called to be Spiritual Israelites, atOne with Jesus. 4/10/19, God’s 1st month 5th day of Nisan, 5,779 until sunset.

What matters to most of our so called educated populations? Are concerns regarding “me, mine and ours.” In part, they don’t think God’s Word squares, regarding daily events. Some interpret God’s Word to say that this earth’s age is less than 6,000 years old. Not mindful of God’s truth in “the Genesis account is a re-creation and a new creation.” True it’s less than 6,000 years since Adam’s creation, but a previous flood left the conditions we see spelled out in the Genesis account. (Gen1:2-3; Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God ‘breath of God’ was moving over the surface of the water. God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light!”) Spirit of God? is preserved here, “opposed to a translation like “wind from/breath of God” (NRSV) or “mighty wind” (NEB) taking the word “God” to represent the superlative.) People’s attitude hasn’t changed since Peter was inspired to write.

(2Pet 3:3-7; “Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urges and saying, “Where is His promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.” (5) For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the word of God, heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water. Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water. (7) But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, by being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.”)

Believers IN Jesus have no problem with science’s carbon dating, though not necessarily accurate. We know this earth’s age is much older than 6,000 years, “perhaps a million or more.” Educators misunderstand the fact of re-creation, that causes many to disbelieve God’s Word. Making science and their own fleshly logic, their god, or themselves little “god beings.” Rather than be believes IN as He’s manifested to be.”

Worshiping God in spirit and truth is to know by faith evidence, “that all things are possible with our Creator.” After Adam’s creation and he was placed in a particular area, “we have no biblical evidence regarding what God was doing on earth’s opposite side.” We have little to go on regarding how long it took for Adam’s descendents to cross oceans? We know the seventh from Adam, “Enoch” preached “the Lord’s coming with thousands to rule earth.” (See Jude 1:14) There were giants in those days. (see Genesis 6:) IN less than 2,000 years wickedness had spread to the degree that God destroyed and started over. (“Every inclination in the thoughts of peoples minds were on evil all the time.” Gen 6:5) Before the Noah day flood, there were hybrid human giants” “Offspring of the sexual union of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of humankind.” Some were the heroes, “famous hybrid men.”

Very large animals lived in some areas. (See Isaiah 27 for starters.) There’s room for some speculation and that’s okay, “if speculations aren’t taught as matters of fact.”

The first flooded earth was long before Adam’s creation, “perhaps when Lucifer rebelled and became Satan.” thus a re-creation, before Adam. Satan may have been banned from heaven, thousands or millions years before! Jesus revealed to John that there had been war in heaven when Satan rebelled. (See Rev 12:7) So yes indeed! We Christians should know there’s room in our thinking for the existence of dinosaurs before Adam’s creation. However we and the Jews particularly have biblical proof of the time line from Adam’s creation to now. (It’s been close to 5,780 years since Adam.) (See Romans 3:1-4)

(Gen 6:6-8; “The Lord regretted that he had made humankind on the earth, and He was highly offended. So the Lord said, “I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – everything from humankind to animals, including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the sight of the Lord.”) We can’t believe IN Jesus and not accept that the Noah day flood happened! In writing about the judgments of God, Peter speaks to the judgment of angels and the flood. (See 2 Peter 2:4)

(Gen 1:1; “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (The translation assumes that the word translated “beginning” is in the absolute state rather than the construction (“in a beginning of, or when God created.”) In other words, the clause in v. 1 is a main clause, v. 2 has three clauses that are descriptive and supply background information and v. 3 begins the narrative sequence proper. The referent of the word “beginning” has to be defined from the context, that since there is no beginning or ending with God. (In a beginning could apply.) The verse refers to the beginning of the world as we know it; affirming that it is entirely the product of the creation or re-creation of God.

(Gen 1:2-5; “Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water. God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light! God saw that the light was good, so God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” There was evening, and there was morning, marking the first day.”) The earth’s condition leaves room to speculate about it’s age, but none of these things hinder the gifted faith of Jesus’ followers. Angelic beings including Satan were created long before Adam. Isaiah was inspired to write about Satan’s vanity, his being allowed to rule nations and his demise.

(Isaiah 14:12-15; “Look how you have fallen from the sky, O shining one, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the ground, O conqueror of the nations! You said to yourself, “I will climb up to the sky. Above the stars of El “deity” I will set up my throne. I will rule on the mountain of assembly on the remote slopes of Zaphon. I will climb up to the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High!” But you were brought down to Sheol, to the remote slopes of the pit.”) (SHEOL? “The lowest depths of the earth”; (NAB) “to the depths of the nether world”; (NIV) “to the realm of death below”; (NLT) “to the depths of the grave.” No reference to hell and hell-fire – (which was a much later concept) – but to the innermost parts of the earth, as low down as one could get. Paralleling with “the foundations of mountains” makes this clear (Psalms 9:17; 16:10; 139:8; Isaiah 14:9, 15; Amos 9:2).

Jesus was there when Satan was removed. He said; “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” Luke 10:17) Jesus sent 72 disciples out to tell the good news of the kingdom of God. They were given power over demons and on return they rejoiced over the response. Jesus put no importance on demon submission, saying; “I saw Satan fall like lightning, from heaven:” and told them to rejoice that their names were written in heaven.

Unbelievers aren’t helped by examining what God’s Word teaches about Jesus and His apostles’ beliefs. BUT, perhaps sharing what we believed will help folks that are being called. Paul wrote Timothy.

(1Tim 6:20-21; “O Timothy, protect what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the profane chatter and absurdities of so-called “knowledge, “science.” By professing it, “false science - knowledge” some have strayed from the faith. Grace be with you all.”)

Fleshly logic from our inherited nature has always diluted faith evidence. This brings us back to the fact that, “only those to whom God chooses to reveal Himself can believe IN.” Peter believed in Jesus’ promised return; creation; the flood, the final purification of all things by fire and Jesus’ revelation about unbelieving scoffers.

(2Pet 3:3-7; ““Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urges and saying, “Where is His promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.”” For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the Word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water. Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water. But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, by being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.””) The Holy scripture reveal “affirms” these same truths to various people, over many years of separation.

God ask Job questions that He may ask us one day. (Job 38:4-41 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you possess understanding! – or who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its bases set, or who laid its cornerstone – when the morning stars sang in chorus, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? “Who shut up the sea with doors when it burst forth, coming out of the womb, when I made the storm clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, when I prescribed its limits, and set in place its bolts and doors, when I said, ‘To here you may come and no farther, here your proud waves will be confined’? Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, or made the dawn know its place, that it might seize the corners of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it? The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features are dyed like a garment. (15) Then from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm raised in violence is broken. (16) Have you gone to the springs that fill the sea, or walked about in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Have you seen the gates of deepest darkness? Have you considered the vast expanses of the earth? Tell Me, if you know it all! “In what direction does light reside, and darkness, where is its place, that you may take them to their borders and perceive the pathways to their homes? You know, for you were born before them; and the number of your days is great! Have you entered the storehouse of the snow, or seen the armory of the hail, which I reserve for the time of trouble, for the day of war and battle? In what direction is lightning dispersed, or the east winds scattered over the earth? Who carves out a channel for the heavy rains, and a path for the rumble of thunder, to cause it to rain on an uninhabited land, a desert where there are no human beings, to satisfy a devastated and desolate land, and to cause it to sprout with vegetation? (28) Does the rain have a father, or who has fathered the drops of the dew? From whose womb does the ice emerge, and the frost from the sky, who gives birth to it, when the waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen solid? (31) Can you tie the bands of the Pleiades, or release the cords of Orion? Can you lead out the constellations in their seasons, or guide the Bear with its cubs? (33) Do you know the laws of the heavens, or can you set up their rule over the earth? Can you raise your voice to the clouds so that a flood of water covers you? Can you send out lightning bolts, and they go? Will they say to you, ‘Here we are’? (36) Who has put wisdom in the heart, or has imparted understanding to the mind? Who by wisdom can count the clouds, and who can tip over the water jars of heaven, when the dust hardens into a mass, and the clumps of earth stick together? (39) “Do you hunt prey for the lioness, and satisfy the appetite of the lions, when they crouch in their dens, when they wait in ambush in the thicket? (41) Who prepares prey for the raven, when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?)

The Son of God “Jesus” was asking Job these questions. (Revisit John 1;1-5, Col 1:15-20 & Hebrews 1:) Job was a blessed man, believing IN God. The book, “Job” is preserved for our understanding. When Satan was communing with God; he was asked, “what do you think of My servant Job? Satan’s response was, “Job is such only because You have your hand on him.” “Remove Your hand and I will make him curse You” Satan said. So God allowed Satan to have his way with Job for a time; “only Satan could not take his life.” Study Job. The truth conclusion is; “God is all knowing, the Creator with a concluding plan.
