The Christian Obligation, chapter 19

To: 17,442 gifted with a desire to be atOne with God the Father and God the Son “Jesus” “Called to be Spiritual Israelites” 5/21/19, God’s 2nd month 16th day of Lyyar 5,779 until sunset.

Book Chapter 13

Satan has unbelievers worshiping many gods of the imagination. Pagan’s of old worshiping “god of thunder - thought of as having a wife and son, Greeks looked to a goddess of wisdom, others imagined gods had two heads etc. Early sixteenth century Latin Vulgate translators attempted to identify the “spirit of truth” as a deity with God the Father and God the Son. King James translators picked up on this assertion. They like Solomon fell victim to foreign gods. Gods of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites whose lands God gave Israel. Nations which the Lord warned the Israelites, “You must not establish friendly relations with them! If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” Now Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them. (See 1Kings 11:5-8)

Solomon worshiped Sidonian goddess Astarte and the detestable Ammonite god Milcom. On the hill east of Jerusalem Solomon built a high place for the detestable Moabite god Chemosh and a high places for all his foreign wives so they could burn incense and make sacrifices to their gods.

No wonder that Jesus’ apostles and His followers today contend with likes of the same?

(Acts 19:23-26;  At that time a great disturbance took place concerning the Way. For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought a great deal of business to the craftsmen. He gathered these together, along with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that our prosperity comes from this business. (26) And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a large crowd, not only in Ephesus but in practically all of the province of Asia, by saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all.)

(Acts 19:27-29; There is danger not only that this business of ours will come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be regarded as nothing, and she whom all the province of Asia and the world worship will suffer the loss of her greatness.” When they heard this they became enraged and began to shout, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” The city was filled with the uproar, and the crowd rushed to the theater together, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, the Macedonians who were Paul’s traveling companions.)

(Acts 19:30-34; But when Paul wanted to enter the public assembly, the disciples would not let him. Even some of the provincial authorities who were his friends sent a message to him, urging him not to venture into the theater. So then some were shouting one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had met together. (33) Some of the crowd concluded it was about Alexander because the Jews had pushed him to the front. Alexander, gesturing with his hand, was wanting to make a defense before the public assembly. But when they recognized that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” for about two hours.) (Acts 19:35-41’ After the city secretary quieted the crowd, he said, “Men of Ephesus, what person is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the keeper of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image that fell from heaven? So because these facts are indisputable, you must keep quiet and not do anything reckless. For you have brought these men here who are neither temple robbers nor blasphemers of our goddess. (38) If then Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a complaint against someone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls; let them bring charges against one another there. But if you want anything in addition, it will have to be settled in a legal assembly. For we are in danger of being charged with rioting today, since there is no cause we can give to explain this disorderly gathering.” (41) After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.)

Satan’s influence on unbelieving people hasn’t changed. It takes little for large portions of our populations to start rioting. Particularly matters, where Satan has totally deceived.

God’s truth is “God the Father and God the Son are One.” Two deities of the same mind. This, “His principle of atOnement” carries over to husband/wife relationship and His church family relationship. So let’s examine John 14: where the Latin Vulgate, King James  and other translations attempt to make God the Father, God the Son and the spirit of truth “God in three persons.” The same unbelieving populations that twist Sabbath observance twist most everything. Seemingly not mindful that Jesus was and is the Lord God that wrote the ten commandments with his finger  (See John 1:1-5. & Col 1:15-20)

(John 14:15-17; “If you love Me, you will obey my commandments. Then I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it ‘the world’ does not see him ‘that one or it’ or know him ‘it or that one.” But you know him ‘that one“, because he ’it’ resides with you and will be in you.”)

(Advocate simple means “Comforter“ “Helper” or “Counselor”; Grk “Paraclete,” from the Greek word παράκλητος (paraklhto”). Finding an appropriate English translation for παράκλητος is a very difficult task. No single English word has exactly the same range of meaning as the Greek word. “Comforter” or “Helper” used by some of the older English versions, appears to be as old as Wycliffe. But today it suggests a quilt or a sympathetic mourner at a funeral. “Counselor” “Helper” is adequate, but too broad, in contexts like “marriage counselor” or “camp counselor.” “Helper” “Comforter” or “Assistant” could also be used, but could suggest a subordinate rank. “Advocate,” the word chosen for this Net Bible  translation, has more forensic overtones than the Greek word does, although in John 16:5-11 a forensic context is certainly present. Because an “advocate” is someone who “advocates” or supports a position or viewpoint and since this is what the Paraclete will do for the preaching of the disciples, it was selected in spite of the drawbacks.”)

It’s the spirit of truth imputed to the mind when a person is “born from above.” It’s the spirit of God’s indwelling to change our inherited from Adam nature to an inherited from Jesus nature. It’s the spirit of truth giving people the desire to be atOne with God. (See Phil 2:13)

Jesus said; (John 14:18-21; “I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come to you. In a little while the world will not see Me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too. You will know at that time that I am in My Father and you are in Me and I am in you. (21) The person who has My commandments and obeys them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him.”) It’s the mystery hid from the world until Jesus revealed it to His chosen. A chosen people with gifted desire to be atOne in obedient fashion with Him.

(John 14:22- “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” (23) Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will obey My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and take up residence with him. (It’s the mystery that happens revealing God the Father and God the Son as One.) The person who does not love Me does not obey My words. And the word you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me. (25) “I have spoken these things while staying with you. But the Advocate, “spirit of truth” “helper” “comforter” the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.”)

The spirit of truth, “Holy Spirit” “advocate - helper - comforter” is a supernatural binding of spirit with God the Father and God the Son, likened to the spiritual love bond a mother and child have with each other.

(John 16:1-11; “I have told you all these things so that you will not fall away. They will put you ‘Believers’ out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God. (Remember the Jewish Holocaust? And what about today’s hatreds?)  They will do these things because they have not known the Father or Me. But I have told you these things so that when their time comes, you will remember that I told you about them.

“I did not tell you these things from the beginning because I was with you. (5) But now I am going to the One who sent Me, and not one of you is asking Me, ‘Where are you going?’ Instead your hearts are filled with sadness because I have said these things to you. (7) But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate ‘comforter - helper’ will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him ‘that one - it” to you. And when ’that one - it’ comes, it will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment –  concerning sin, because they do not believe IN Me; concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see Me no longer; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.”)

(John 16:12-16; “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when it the Spirit of truth, comes, he ‘that one’ will guide you into all truth. For it will not speak on it’s own authority, but will speak whatever it hears, and will tell you what is to come. He ‘that one’ will glorify Me, because it will receive from Me what is Mine and will tell it to you. (15) Everything that the Father has is Mine; that is why I said the Spirit will receive from Me what is Mine and will tell it to you. In a little while you will see me no longer; again after a little while, you will see Me.”

Advocate, “Helper” “Counselor” or Comforter  Grk “Paraclete,” from the Greek word παράκλητος (paraklhto”). See the note on the word “Advocate” in John 14:16 for a discussion of how this word is translated.”

(V. 9 above: the world is proven guilty concerning sin, and the reason given is their refusal to believe in Jesus. (John 3:19, the effect of Jesus coming into the world as the Light of the world was to provoke judgment, by forcing people to choose up sides for or against Him, they chose darkness rather than light.) In John 12:37, at the very end of Jesus’ public ministry, people were still refusing to believe IN Him. There’s two questions that need to be answered: (1) what is the meaning of the Greek δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosunh) in this context, and (2) to whom does it pertain – to the world, or to someone else? (1) The Greek word δικαιοσύνη occurs in the Gospel of John only here and in v. 8. It’s assumed that it refers to forensic justification, as it does so often in Paul’s writings. Thus the answer to question (2) would be that it refers to the world. “His Spirit shows men (no-one else can.)

Righteousness before God depends on Christ’s atoning work for the called. Righteousness has to do with Jesus’ return to the Father and His absence from us. John’s good news is about vindication of His followers and their vindication derives from His. Jesus’ last statement at v-10 references the presence of the “Spirit-Paraclete” who couldn’t come until Jesus departed. (16:7) What’s involved is Jesus’ return to the Father and through His substitutionary death people are justified. Jesus repeatedly said His Oneness was with the Father. His opponents repeatedly rejected Him and labeled Him a deceiver, a sinner and a blasphemer (John 5:18, 7:12, 9:24, 10:33, etc.). But Jesus, by His glorification through His return to the Father, is vindicated in spite of his opponents. His meaning at v. 10 is thus: When the “Spirit-Paraclete” comes it will prove the world wrong concerning the subject of righteousness, “namely Jesus’ righteousness” demonstrated when He’s glorified in presence with the Father and the disciples see Him no more (but they will have
