Perpetual Promises, chapter 9

  11/5/19, God’s 8th month, Cheshvan 7/5780.   20,967

To: Called out living Jesus’ faith people, “in the world but not of the world.”

God made promises to Abraham that are fulfilled and many are yet to be. All His promises are intended, some have stipulations such as God changing His mind if a nation turns from “what God views as evil.” )The end of this age is preplanned, but God also promises to cut it short for the Elect’s sake.) Israel’s being enslaved and their deliverance from Egypt was preplanned, told to Abraham and was fulfilled in exact timing. (The Son of God’s coming as the Messiah, Lamb of God, re-creating, doing miracles no one else had done, delivering from sin’s result by sacrificing His life’s blood and ascending to His former position; and now Mediator on our behalf before God the Father, has been fulfilled.) He’s The High Priest and is coming back to fulfill all promises.

(Heb 5:1-4; “For every high priest is taken from among the people and appointed to represent them before God, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal compassionately with those who are ignorant and erring, since He also was subject to weakness, and for this reason He is obligated to make sin offerings for Himself as well as for the people. And no one assumes this honor on his own initiative, but only when called to it by God, as in fact Aaron was.”)

(Heb 5:5-6; “So also Christ did not glorify Himself in becoming high priest, but the One who glorified Him was God, who said to Him, “You are My Son! Today I have fathered you,” as also in another place God says, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” (quote from Psalms 110:4)

(Heb 5:7-10; During His earthly life Christ offered both requests and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the One who was able to save Him from death and He was heard because of His devotion. (8) Although He was a Son, He learned obedience through the things He suffered. And by being perfected in this way, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, and He was designated by God as high priest in the order of Melchizedek.” (Jesus was “High Priest Melchizedek” during Abraham’s day, long before Aaron and the Levites were appointed to serve.

(Heb 5:11-14; “On this topic we have much to say and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing. For though you should in fact be teachers by this time, you need someone to teach you the beginning elements of God’s utterances. You have gone back to needing milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced in the message of righteousness, because he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, whose perceptions are trained by practice to discern both good and evil.”)

God does the calling, gifts desire and effort, we’re obligated to depend on Jesus’ imputed spirit for guidance rather than fleshly intellect which is idolatry. Now the Hebrews writer gives us the basic Church of God doctrine. Find seven in the next text. (1) Repentance from dead works. (2) Faith in God. (3) Baptisms. (4) Laying on of hands.(5) Resurrection of the dead.(6) Eternal judgment. (7) Progress beyond the elementary, move to maturity, not laying the foundation over and over.

(Heb 6:1-2; “Therefore we must progress beyond the elementary instructions about Christ and move on to maturity, not laying this foundation again: repentance from dead works and faith in God, teaching about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.”)

(Heb 6:3-6; “And this is what we intend to do, if God permits. For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, become partakers of the Holy Spirit, tasted the good word of God and the miracles of the coming age, and then have committed apostasy, to renew them again to repentance, since they are crucifying the Son of God for themselves all over again and holding Him up to contempt.”)

Meditate on the above, “once supernaturally enlightened, tasted God’s gifts, imputed with the Holy Spirit and seen the reality of His millennial age to come; it’s like take demonically inspired hatred of God and turning back.

John 3:16; “For this is the way God “the Father” loved the world: He gave His One and only Son, so that everyone who believes IN Him will not perish but have eternal life.” The called must understand that believing IN constitutes a desire to obey“).

God the Father calls and gives the called over to Jesus. (Philippians 2:12-13; “So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence, for the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort — for the sake of his good pleasure — is God.”) LOOK and consider, even Jesus prayed that God the Father glorify Him so He could glorify the Father.

(John 17:1-3; “When Jesus had finished saying these things, He looked upward to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify Your Son, so that Your Son may glorify You – just as you have given Him authority over all humanity, so that He may give eternal life to everyone You have given Him. (3) Now this is eternal life – that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You sent.”)

God the Father reveals Jesus and through Jesus we know the Father, “this is eternal life.“ Now we can’t know God the Father and Jesus Christ until their characteristics and attributes are supernaturally revealed. Till understanding is gifted and we know, God’s family righteousness is holiness.

(John 17:4-5; “I glorified You on earth by completing the work You gave Me to do. And now, Father, glorify Me at your side with the glory I had with you before the world was created.”) Believers understand and know the deity and lordship of Jesus.

(John 17:6-19; “I have revealed Your name to the men You gave Me out of the world. They belonged to You, and You gave them to Me, and they have obeyed Your word. Now they understand that everything you have given Me comes from You, because I have given them the words You have given Me. They accepted them and really understand that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me. (9) I am praying on behalf of them. I am not praying on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those You have given Me, because they belong to You. Everything I have belongs to You, and everything You have belongs to Me, and I have been glorified by them. (11) I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep them safe in Your name ‘nature’ that you have given Me, so that they may be One just as we are One. When I was with them I kept them safe and watched over them in your name that You have given Me. Not one of them was lost except the one destined for destruction, so that the scripture could be fulfilled. But now I am coming to You, and I am saying these things in the world, so they may experience My joy completed in themselves. I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. (15) I am not asking You to take them out of the world, but that You keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to the world just as I do not belong to the world. (17) Set them apart in the truth; your word is truth. Just as You sent Me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I set Myself apart on their behalf, so that they too may be truly set apart ‘sanctified.’) Rejoice if the world hates you “because of your living His Way.”

From God’s perspective “none are good.” (See Jeremiah 4:22)

Matt 19:17; He said to him, “Why do you ask Me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” “Which ones?” he asked. Jesus replied, “Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.”)

Paul asked, if God considered some good, “how could God judge the world?” How could all be judged as sinners if some were good? And why not say, “Let us do evil so that good may come of it”? – as some who slander us allege that we say. Paul defining Jesus’ Word, quoted “all have sinned and come short of the grace of God.“ Because all people have inherited Adam’s sin nature that must be turned from. From these conclusions consider Paul’s understanding and quotes from the Psalms.

(Rom 3:9-18; What then? Are we better off? Certainly not, for we have already charged that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin, just as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one, there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, together they have become worthless; there is no one who shows kindness, not even one.” “Their throats are open graves, they deceive with their tongues, the poison of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood, ruin and misery are in their paths, and the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”) (Paul is quoting Psalms 14:1-3. 5:9 and 140:3.)

Until God supernaturally opens understanding, people are characterized as above.

Until God miraculously changes our nature from that described in verses above and imputes His spirit, we’re powerless to offer genuine repentance. He gifts the desire to spiritually be obedient. Paul instructed the Thessalonians.

(1Thess 5:15-22; “See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all. Always rejoice, constantly pray, in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not extinguish the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt. But examine all things; hold fast to what is good. Stay away from every form of evil.)
