Perpetual Promises, chapter 12

11/10/19, God’s 8th month, Cheshvan 12/5780.

To: Called out people living Jesus’ faith, “in the world but not of the world.”

As God has planned, so it will be. (Isaiah 46:11-13; “I who summons an eagle from the east, from a distant land, One who carries out My plan. Yes, I have decreed, yes, I will bring it to pass; I have formulated a plan, yes, I will carry it out. Listen to Me, you stubborn people, you who distance yourself from doing what is right. I am bringing My deliverance near, it is not far away; I am bringing My salvation near, it does not wait. I will save Zion; I will adorn Israel with My splendor.”)

God foreknew the result of His covenanting contract with the Israelites through His servant Moses and shared that result with him. God foreknew that He’d scatter Israelites and His revealing Himself to non-Israelites, ultimately making both one body of believers. Remember the controversy in God’s Jerusalem church over Peter’s taking the gospel to Cornelius? (See Acts 10:) Israelites assumed they were God’s only people and were biased toward gentiles.

As revealed in the last study; “Part of God’s purpose was served when Israel rejected His Way.” Their stubbornness resulted in God’s gifting chosen Gentiles His gift of repentance. It was God’s secret withheld from His prophets and the heavenly host until His appointed time to reveal it. Now through Jesus’ good news as revealed to His apostles, chosen gentiles can became fellow heirs, “members of The Body and fellow partakers of promises through Abraham.” Now revealed through Jesus’ apostle Paul. Pray for discernment.

(Ephesians 3:1-6; “For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles – if indeed you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, that by revelation the divine secret was made known to me, as I wrote before briefly. (4) When reading this, you will be able to understand my insight into this secret of Christ. Now this secret was not disclosed to people in former generations as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit, (6) namely, that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus.

(Eph 3:7-9; I “Paul” became a servant of this gospel according to the gift of God’s grace that was given to me by the exercise of His power. To me – less than the least of all the Saints – this grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ and to enlighten everyone about God’s secret plan – a secret that has been hidden for ages in God who has created all things.

(Eph 3:10-13; “The purpose of this enlightenment is that through the church the multifaceted wisdom of God should now be disclosed to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly realms. This was according to the eternal purpose that He “God the Father” accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confident access to God because of Christ’s faithfulness. For this reason I ask you not to lose heart because of what I am suffering for you, which is your glory.”)

Remember Paul’s conversion and what was told Ananias who told Paul his future?

(Acts 9:10-19;” Now there was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias,” and he replied, “Here I am, Lord.” Then the Lord told him, “Get up and go to the street called ‘Straight,’ and at Judas’ house look for a man from Tarsus named Saul. For he is praying, and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and place his hands on him “Paul” so that he may see again.” But Ananias replied, “Lord, I have heard from many people about this man, how much harm he has done to your Saints in Jerusalem, and here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call on Your name!” (15) But the Lord said to him, “Go, because this man is My chosen instrument to carry My name before Gentiles and kings and the people of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” So Ananias departed and entered the house, placed his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, his strength returned.)

Much was revealed to Paul, some things he said couldn’t be spoken about. But now revealed to Believers IN that salvation is through faith in Jesus.”

(Ephesians 3:14-19; “For this reason I “Paul” kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on the earth is named. I pray that according to the wealth of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner person, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love, you may be able to comprehend with all the Saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and thus to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”

(Eph 3:20-21; “Now to Him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”) (Remember Jacob’s name change to ‘Israel’ means ‘God fights,’ thus all followers of Jesus become spiritual Israelites and Heirs with Abraham.)

God’s new spiritual covenant is with spiritual Israelites, “followers of Jesus through gifted faith.” (People gifted to understand God’s characteristics and deity with God the Son, have desires to be obedient through Jesus’ imputed faith, are God’s Elect.) A people Jesus was speaking of when He said, “if possible even the Elect would be deceived.” See Matthew 24:24.

(Ephesians 4:1-6; “I “Paul” therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live worthily of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (4) There is one body and one Spirit, just as you too were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”)

When we believe IN Jesus’ revelations through His apostle Paul “there is no room for denominationalism.” No room to think methodology regarding how people are saved.

(Eph 4:7-10; “But to each one of us “followers of Jesus” grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high He captured captives; He gave gifts to men.” (See Psalms 68:18)

(Eph 5:9-10; Now what is the meaning of “He ascended,” except that He also descended to the lower regions, namely, the earth? He, the very One who descended, is also the One who ascended above all the heavens, in order to fill all things.”

God’s gifts people! Whether intellectual, creativity, spiritual talents such as healings or teaching, thank Him for His giving; there is no room for boasting or arrogance.

(Eph 4:11-13; “It was He who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, to equip the Saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God – a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature.” (Not earnable by works or goodness, but by grace.)

(Eph 4:14-16; “So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. (15) But practicing the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head. From Him the whole body grows, fitted and held together through every supporting ligament. As each one does its part, the body “church” grows in love.”)

Paul is teaching “the truth” so we may grow up into Christ’s character.

(Eph 4:17; “So I say this, and insist in the Lord, that you no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.”)

Look around and take note of the fact ‘modern Evangelic denominations practice more gentile traditions today than fifty years ago.’ Note the evolution of what’s acceptable among professing Christians. Speaking of unbelievers Paul continues to explain why the many don‘t understand.

(Eph 4:18-24; They “gentiles or unbelievers” are darkened in their understanding, being alienated from the life of God because of ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts. Because they are callous, they have given themselves over to indecency for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. But you ’followers of Jesus’ did not learn about Christ like this, if indeed you heard about Him and were taught in Him, just as the truth is in Jesus. (22) You were taught with reference to your former way of life to lay aside the old man who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires, to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and to put on the new man who has been created in God’s image – in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth.”)

Through the truth, God’s Way is lived. Gentile and Israelites live according to the hardness of their hearts ‘until God reveals Himself and calls to His Way. When called out people hear God’s truth they recognize it because they are foreknown and are His sheep. (Jesus said it; “But you refuse to believe because you are not My sheep. My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no one will snatch them from My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch them from My Father’s hand. The Father and I are One.” John 10:26-30.)

(Eph 4:25-32; “Therefore, “you gentile followers of Jesus” having laid aside falsehood, each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on the cause of your anger. Do not give the devil an opportunity. The one who steals must steal no longer; rather he must labor, doing good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need. You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk. Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.”) Remember followers of Jesus are called without having done worthy works. We must forgive in a similar manner and thank God for His grace.
