Plans for God’s people, chapter 19

Jan 13 - 2,020. God’s 10th Month, Tevet 16, year 5,780

To: A called people gifted with desire to be atOne with God, “His church.”

Consider the difference in how Passover and the two Sabbaths associated with the season were planned for? Consider how this holy season should be prepared for. About eight days before Nisan 14, ‘in the year Jesus died” He began preparing His apostles for His departure. They didn’t comprehend Jesus’ value until He entered that locked room where His followers were assembled, because of fearing the local authorities.

(John 20:24-25; “Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the wounds from the nails in His hands, and put my finger into the wounds from the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe it!”)

(John 20:26-29; Eight days later the disciples were again together in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and examine My hands. Extend your hand and put it into My side. Do not continue in your unbelief, but believe.” Thomas replied to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are the people who have not seen and yet have believed.”)

Let’s prepare our minds for worship and thanksgiving on this coming Passover season. Let’s believe that Jesus is our Passover and Deliverer from sin’s broad way, “to His righteous path.” Starting on this coming Passover and through the following week, “let’s set aside time for examining ourselves in Jesus’ light and consider what He has delivered us from and to.” To Jesus’ followers Paul wrote and remember he’s writing during the season.

(1Cor 6:9-11; “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God. Some of you once lived this way. But you ‘followers of Jesus’ were washed, you were sanctified, ‘set aside’ you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”)

Our Lord, nor did any apostle ever tell us it would be easy turning from sinful practices while living is this world’s condoning sin system of things. As with the Israelites Jesus delivered through Moses, followers of Jesus in Paul’s day had their problems with standing firm in The Faith ‘the truth.’ To the Galatians Paul expanded.

(Galatians 1:6-10; “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One ‘God the Father’ who called you by the grace of Christ and are following a different gospel – not that there really is another gospel, but there are some who are disturbing you and wanting to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we (or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. (9) As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be accursed. Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!”)

(Some manuscripts translate ‘accursed’ as, “condemned to hell” comparing scripture to scripture we know the likelihood of teaching another gospel is “a second death.” See Revelations 2:11, 20:6, 20:14 and 21:8.

Teaching followers of Jesus to Love and build up

one another was Paul’s primary objective.

True to their and our fleshly nature’s leanings, some in Christendom groups attempt to utter words that have no meaning as evidence of the Holy Spirit.

(1Cor 14:13-19; “So then, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unproductive. What should I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing praises with my spirit, but I will also sing praises with my mind. (16) Otherwise, if you are praising God with your spirit, how can someone without the gift say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? For you are certainly giving thanks well, but the other person is not strengthened. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you, but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.”)

Paul taught self control in prayerful thanksgiving and singing praises. Paul’s mind may have drifted to other languages; “but in the church he was careful that he be understood.”

(1Cor 14:20-25; “Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. It is written in the law: “By people with strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, yet not even in this way will they listen to Me, says the Lord.” (Quote from Isaiah 28:11-12) (22) So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers. Prophecy ‘teaching’ however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds? (24) But if all prophesy, ‘teach’ and an unbeliever or uninformed person enters, he will be convicted by all, he will be called to account by all. The secrets of his heart are disclosed, and in this way he will fall down with his face to the ground and worship God, declaring, “God is really among you.”)

Remember when God’s energizing Holy Spirit came on believing Israelites on that Pentecost after Jesus’ ascension, “visitors from various countries heard them speaking wonderful words in languages they understood.” (Are not all these Israelites they said?) As with order “celebrating the Lord’s supper, Paul taught assembly order.”

(1Cor 14:26-33; “What should you do then, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, and has an interpretation. Let all these things be done for the strengthening of the church. If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret. But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church. Let him speak to himself and to God. (29) Two or three prophets ‘teachers’ should speak and the others should evaluate what is said. And if someone sitting down receives a revelation, the person who is speaking should conclude. For you can all prophesy ‘teach’ one after another, so all can learn and be encouraged. Indeed, the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets, (33) for God is not characterized by disorder but by peace.”)

Seemingly Jesus and Paul would’ve had a problem with the way many in Christendom conduct worship services in this age. Today Christendom’s groups attend to hear a lecture from a self called individual. If someone raising a hand to speak a revelation, ‘he’d be considered out of order.’

Godly submissiveness to order in His church

and family structure is of great spiritual value.

(1Cor 14:35-36; As in all the churches of the Saints, the women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak. Rather, let them be in submission, as in fact the law says. (35) If they want to find out about something, they should ask their husbands at home, because it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church. Did the word of God begin with you, or did it come to you alone?”) (Why? it’s God’s way. Yielding to Godly authority is of great spiritual value, “a Christian husband should be yielded to Christ, a wife to her husband and children to parental authority.)

(1Cor 14:37-40; “If anyone considers himself a prophet ‘teacher’ or spiritual person, he should acknowledge that what I write to you is the Lord’s command. If someone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. So then, brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy ’teach’ and do not forbid anyone from speaking in tongues. And do everything in a decent and orderly manner.”)

Depending on where and economic status, today’s gatherings for worship have evolved from formal to informal settings and dress attire. Only a few fit the pattern Paul recommends in this chapter. The main reason is, “all worldly religions teach some form of methodology for salvation.” Their thinking seems to be, “revelations are in theological schoolings to be delivered to the merchandise.” As such they teach “individuals can choose whether or if, to be a follower of their religion.”

Their giant error is; “Believers IN Jesus are called through God the Father’s promised revelations, made alive in Jesus and saved by grace.”

(Eph 2:4-10; “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you are saved! – and He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus to demonstrate in the coming ages the surpassing wealth of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace we are saved through ‘Jesus’’ faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast. (10) For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them.”) No works or individual intellectual decisions can save. God calls opens minds, gifts a turning and deliverance for His kingdom service.
