Genesis and the New Covenant, chapter 16

To: People being made temples of God’s spirit: “God’s Church ” 7/29/18, God’s 5th month, AV 17, 5778 until sunset.

We see in our Lord’s brother ‘Jude’s’ writing; “the gospel of God’s kingdom was preached by ‘Enoch’ long before the flood.” That good news? (The Lord is coming with thousands and thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment on all and to convict every person of all their thoroughly ungodly deeds that they have committed and of all the harsh words that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. These people are grumblers and fault-finders who go wherever their desires lead them, and they give bombastic speeches, enchanting folks for their own gain.” Jude 1”14-16) Jude named Cain’s path and Korah‘s rebellion as “the wrong way.”

It seems that all except those the Lord God revealed Himself to “were hostile toward Him.” Like today’s people to whom we say, “there’s only one truth” have the mindset, “I’ll find my own.” Thus a multitude of gods are looked to; “today and then.” People whose beliefs aren’t parallel with Noah’s, Seth’s, Abraham’s, Moses’, Jesus and His apostles are hostiles to God. (Back to Genesis; “God makes a perpetual covenant with Abraham.)

(Gen 15:17-21; “When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking firepot with a flaming torch passed between the animal parts. That day the Lord made a covenant with Abram: “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River – the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites, and Jebusites.”)

Much of these lands were given to the Israelites after Moses’ death, when Joshua led them across the Jordan River during the Passover season. These lands will be restored to Israel after Jesus’ return. (See Joshua 4:)

(Gen 16:1-5; “Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not given birth to any children, but she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “Since the Lord has prevented me from having children, have sexual relations with my servant. Perhaps I can have a family by her.” Abram did what Sarai told him. So after Abram had lived in Canaan for ten years, Sarai, Abram’s wife, gave Hagar, her Egyptian servant, to her husband to be his wife. He had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. Once Hagar realized she was pregnant, she despised Sarai. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You have brought this wrong on me! I allowed my servant to have sexual relations with you, but when she realized that she was pregnant, she despised me. May the Lord judge between you and me!”)

Jealously is a big part of our inherited nature. Hagar and Sarai put Abraham in the middle.

(Gen 16:6-12; “Abram said to Sarai, “Since your servant is under your authority, do to her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai treated Hagar harshly, so she ran away from Sarai. The Lord’s angel found Hagar near a spring of water in the desert – the spring that is along the road to Shur. He said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She replied, “I’m running away from my mistress, Sarai.” Then the Lord’s angel said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her authority. I will greatly multiply your descendants,” the Lord’s angel added, “so that they will be to numerous to count.” Then the Lord’s angel said to her, “You are now pregnant and are about to give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard your painful groans. (12) He will be a wild donkey of a man. He will be hostile to everyone, and everyone will be hostile to him. He will live away from his brothers.”)

God gives particular characteristics to particular people for His own purposes. The name Ishmael means “God hears” or “may God hear.” Ishmael and Isaac are Abraham’s descendents, “however Isaac is by promise.” Think on what that means.

(Gen 16:13-16; “So Hagar named the Lord who spoke to her, “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “Here I have seen one who sees me!” That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi. (It is located between Kadesh and Bered.) So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son, whom Abram named Ishmael. (Now Abram was 86 years old when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael.”) For the first time, Hagar is led to understand that God knew her before He revealed Himself to her. Ishmael was a teen when Isaac was born.

Most of Ishmael’s descendents are Moslem, “referring to Abraham as father Abraham.” Understand that Isaac represents salvation by promise, as does Jesus.

The god of this age, palms himself off as an angel of light, “leading and deceiving people regarding God’s gift of salvation by mercy, grace and promise.” Peter prophesied, about Jesus’ second coming and this world’s demonic view of it.

(2Peter 3;1-7; Beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your PURE minds by way of remembrance: That you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of we the apostles of our Lord and Savior: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the LAST days scoffers, walking after their own LUST, saying, “where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” (5) For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the WORD of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, PERISHED: But the heavens and the earth, which are NOW, by the same WORD are kept in store, RESERVED unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”)

Peter knew Moses’ teaching regarding creation, the flood etc. Peter understood that the Lord God re-Created from what had perished and now reserved unto fire. Peter is writing to Believers IN Jesus. His purpose is to stir up Believer’s IN, “Christians” pure thinking and bring to memory the words of the prophets. Peter is asking his readers to think back on the written history, the flood and why the people perished. This earth is reserved unto fire, until the day of judgment of the ungodly!

WHEN will that be? Jesus revealed to John and he recorded in the book of revelations; that this destruction would be long after Jesus’ millennial reign. But, the scoffers are willingly ignorant of true science and the word of God. Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:, tells us what to expect as this age unfolds. Basically Jesus tells us that every abomination to Himself, “our Creator” would be practiced before His return. Jesus inspired Isaiah to pen much of what we need to be mindful of.

(Isaiah 64:1-2;Oh that You would rend the heavens, that You would come down, that the mountains might flow down at Your presence, As when the melting fire burned, the fire caused the waters to boil, to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence!”)

Isaiah foresees, “our Lord’s second coming will be with power.” The same Lord that wrote the ten commandments on stone in Moses’ presence, caused the mountain to quake and the people to fear, is going to return with power.

(Isa 64:3-7; “When You did terrible things which we looked not for, You came down, the mountains flowed down at Your presence. For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen, O God, beside You, what He has prepared for him that waits for Him. (5) You meet him that rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember You in Your ways: behold, You are wroth; for we have sinned: in those are continuance and we shall be saved. But we are ALL as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. (7) And there is none that calls upon Your name, that stirs up himself to take hold of You: for You (God) have hid Your face from us, and have consumed us, because of our iniquities.”)

Remember, God’s ways aren’t our ways. Israel’s mistakes are for our examples, “our learning.” The natural, inherited nature in each of us, is like the Israelites’ “as written of in this passage.” What did they and what do we continue to do that causes God to hide Himself from our understanding? The holy scriptures tells us, “if we have the mind to comprehend” this world’s practices are hostile to God’s Way.

God’s way since the day of Enoch, is: “making His chosen in His spiritual image through Jesus.” Changing people’s nature form the likes of Adam’s to Jesus’. Jesus apostle Paul explains.

(1Cor 15:42-49; “It is the same with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. (45) So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living person”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, made of dust; the second man is from heaven. Like the one made of dust, so too are those made of dust and like the one from heaven, so too those who are heavenly. And just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, let us also bear the image of the man of heaven.

15:50-58; “Now this is what I am saying, brothers and sisters: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed – in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable and we will be changed. (53) For this perishable body must put on the imperishable and this mortal body must put on immortality. Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will happen, “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! So then, dear brothers and sisters, be firm. Do not be moved! Always be outstanding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”) Abel, Enoch, Noah and Moses looked to this beginning.
