Genesis and the New Covenant, chapter 20

To: Spiritual Israelites, the family of God, “people being made temples of His spirit, God’s Church ” 8/4/18, God’s 5th month, AV 22, 5778 until sunset.

God’s callings, interventions and revealing of Himself is apparent in the book of Genesis as in the New Testament covenant with His chosen. King Abimelech and his subjects had respect for Abraham’s God; “especially when He intervened. After God revealed that Sarah was Abraham’s wife;   “Early in the morning Abimelech summoned all his servants. When he told them about all these things, they were terrified.” Gen 20:8)

God revealed Himself and called Abraham; “set him above all others for His purposes.” His son Isaac was by promise and chosen as was grandson Jacob: “whose name was changed to Israel.” (Israel meaning God fights)

(Gen 21:8-10; “The child ’Isaac’ grew and was weaned. Abraham prepared a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. But Sarah noticed the son of Hagar the Egyptian – the son whom Hagar had borne to Abraham – mocking. So she said to Abraham, “Banish that slave woman and her son, for the son of that slave woman will not be an heir along with my son Isaac!”) Again, God allows us to see the shortcomings of His called out people. Jealously is never a good thing. However God can and often does allow a fleshly wrong in working things out for His purpose. Jacob’s son Joseph’s life is a good example. What his brothers intended for harm worked out for all Israelites‘ good. (Physical and spiritual Israelites - Christians.) Lets skip to Genesis 50: considering Joseph’s understanding.

(Gen 50:19-21; “But Joseph answered them, ’his brothers’ “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant to harm me, but God intended it for a good purpose, so he could preserve the lives of many people, as you can see this day. So now, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your little children.” Then he consoled them and spoke kindly to them.)

(Gen 21:11-13; “Sarah’s demand displeased Abraham greatly because Ishmael was his son. But God said to Abraham, “Do not be upset about the boy or your slave wife. Do all that Sarah is telling you because through Isaac your descendants will be counted. But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.”) We will see the allegory of these two descendents. One representing bondage and the other freedom by promise. This truth was revealed to Jesus’ apostles and Paul taught it to we Believers IN.

(Galatians 4:21-31; “Tell me, you who want to be under the law, do you not understand the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. But one, the son by the slave woman, was born by natural descent, while the other, the son by the free woman, was born through the promise. These things may be treated as an allegory, for these women represent two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai bearing children for slavery; this is Hagar. Now Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. (26) But the “spiritual” Jerusalem above is free and she is our mother. For it is written: (Paul quotes Isaiah 54:1) “Rejoice, O barren woman who does not bear children; break forth and shout, you who have no birth pains, because the children of the desolate woman are more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.” (28) But you, “believers IN” brothers and sisters, are children of the promise like Isaac. But just as at that time the one born by natural descent persecuted the one born according to the Spirit, so it is now. But what does the scripture say? “Throw out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not share the inheritance with the son” of the free woman. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman but of the free woman.”)

Jesus and His apostles quoted from Moses and the prophets often. The book of Genesis helps our understanding mercy, grace and predestination. Paul and each apostle understood that “The Lord God Jesus” was Abraham’s Lord. Now lets look at Jesus’ prophecy through Isaiah regarding Abraham’s physical and spiritual heirs in the age to come.

(Isaiah 54:1-15; “Shout for joy, O barren one “Sarah” who has not given birth! Give a joyful shout and cry out, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one “Hagar” are more numerous than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord. Make your tent larger, stretch your tent curtains farther out! Spare no effort, lengthen your ropes, and pound your stakes deep. (prove all things, hold fast to good) For you “Israelites - Believers IN - Christians” will spread out to the right and to the left; your children will conquer nations and will resettle desolate cities. Don’t be afraid, for you will not be put to shame! Don’t be intimidated, for you will not be humiliated! You will forget about the shame you experienced in your youth; you will no longer remember the disgrace of your abandonment. (5) For your husband “Jesus” is the one who made you – the Lord who commands armies is His name. He is your protector, the Holy One of Israel. He is called “God of the entire earth.” (6) “Indeed, the Lord will call you back like a wife who has been abandoned and suffers from depression, like a young wife when she has been rejected,” says your God. (7) “For a short time I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you. In a burst of anger I rejected you momentarily, but with lasting devotion I will have compassion on you,” says your protector, the Lord. (9) “As far as I am concerned, this is like in Noah’s time, when I vowed that the waters of Noah’s flood would never again cover the earth. In the same way I have vowed that I will not be angry at you or shout at you. Even if the mountains are removed and the hills displaced, My devotion will not be removed from you, nor will My covenant of “promise” friendship be displaced,” says the Lord, the One who has compassion on you. “O afflicted one, driven away, and un-consoled! Look, I am about to set your stones in antimony and I lay your foundation with lapis-lazuli. I will make your pinnacles out of gems, your gates out of beryl, and your outer wall out of beautiful stones. (13) All your children will be followers of the Lord, and your children will enjoy great prosperity. You will be reestablished when I vindicate you. You will not experience oppression; indeed, you will not be afraid. You will not be terrified, for nothing frightening will come near you. (15) If anyone dares to challenge you, it will not be My doing! Whoever tries to challenge you will be defeated. Look, I create the craftsman, who fans the coals into a fire and forges a weapon. I create the destroyer so he might devastate. No weapon forged to be used against you will succeed; you will refute everyone who tries to accuse you. This is what the Lord will do for his servants – I will vindicate them,” says the Lord.”)

Remember the word “Israel” means God fights. These are promises to Abraham’s heirs, both physical and spiritual! Mostly for millennial and New Jerusalem.

Protestants, Muslims, Catholicism, Hindus etc. do not know our Creator. Each subscribing to a god of their imagination. One permitting them to make changes to His prescribed Way. Subscribing to demonic practices differing and divisionary for the purpose of separating people for advantage: “making merchandise of people.” (Each group deceived, as Jesus said they would be.) A doctrinal similarity is their immortality beliefs, originating from Satan‘s first lie. (Restudy Genesis 3:)

(Jesus said; ““Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the way is spacious that leads to destruction and there are many who enter through it. But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to “eternal” life, and there are few who find it.” Matt 7:13-14). Meaning; “eternal life isn’t automatic.”

Religions read Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Jesus’ apostles, but practice traditions of men, “traditions of Balaam, Moloch and those who days of the week are named for.” Each teach, “people live forever someplace” making various interpretations of their immortality doctrine, as seems reasonable to the fleshly mind. Their particular philosophical writings supports their immortality beliefs. (Protestantism hang to Jesus’ parable about the result of a rich and poor man’s dying, “to support their, “heaven - hell” immortality theory.”) Ignoring the prophets, Jesus and His apostles’ teaching about the resurrections and God’s planned last day judgment. Jesus parables have spiritual meaning for those gifted to comprehend, but for others, “His parables were not meant to be understood!” Why?

John 10:26-28; “But you refuse to believe because you are not My sheep. My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no one will snatch them from my hand.”) Eternal life is gifted! Not born with! It’s revealed teaching to God‘s chosen.

(Matt 13:10-15; “Then the disciples came to Him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables? He replied, “You ‘called ones’ have been given the opportunity to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but they have not. For whoever has will be given more and will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. For this reason I speak to them in parables: Although they see they do not see, and although they hear they do not hear nor do they understand. And concerning them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: ‘You will listen carefully yet will never understand, you will look closely yet will never comprehend. For the heart of this people has become dull; they are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’“) Religious people grow up in societies whose hearts are hardened toward God’s commandments, “especially the fourth.” So; consider Jesus’ parable about the rich man’s circumstances.

(Luke 16:22-24; “Now the poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. And in hell, (Greek, Hades, same as Hebrew Sheol.) as he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far off with Lazarus at his side. So he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this fire.”)

Even if we were not told this was a parable, “angels carrying a deceased person someplace, doesn’t fit Jesus’ other teachings.” Jesus is using this parable to make at least two points. (a) If people didn’t respond to Moses and the prophets, they won’t respond, even if a resurrected person tells them. (b). Living a life of luxury while ignoring people’s needs isn’t rewarding) Additionally; we have Jesus’ revelation to John regarding the resurrections.

(Rev 20:13-15; “The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death the lake of fire.) If a person’s name isn’t found written in the book of life, that person is thrown into the lake of fire.” Jesus revealed; “the lake of fire is at the end of the millennia when all evil will be destroyed.”

Remember the following is parable. (Luke 16:25-31; But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and Lazarus likewise bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish. Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross over from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.’ So the rich man said, ‘Then I beg you, father – send Lazarus to my father’s house (for I have five brothers) to warn them so that they don’t come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they must respond to them.’ Then the rich man said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ He replied to him, ‘If they do not respond to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”)

True prophetic words. Moses and the prophets told of Jesus’ first and second comings. Jesus was resurrected, appeared to many, ascended while many observed, did miracles through His apostles and gave revealed understanding to as many as God chose. We can’t keep unbelieving people from hanging on to traditions of men and deceived by the deceiver, “who manifest himself as an angel of light.”

A destroying fire is prophesied, at the end of the millennia and before New Jerusalem comes down. Jesus may have been alluding to this in His, “rich man parable.” (“Now when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations “again” at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to bring them together for the battle. They are as numerous as the grains of sand in the sea. They went up on the broad plain of the earth and encircled the camp of the Saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and devoured them completely. And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are too, and they will be tormented there day and night forever and ever.” Rev 20:7-10)

People like the rich man in Jesus’ parable, “who refuse to believe IN will die a second death.

(Rev 21:5-8; “And the one seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new!” Then He said to me, “Write it down, because these words are reliable and true.” He also said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give water free of charge from the spring of the water of “eternal” life. The one who conquers “overcomes” will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. (But to the cowards, unbelievers, detestable persons murderers, the sexually immoral, and those who practice magic spells, idol worshipers, and all those who lie, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. That is the second death.”)
