Genesis and the New Covenant, chapter 38

To: The Family of God, “people being made temples of His spirit” God’s Church  9/2/18, God’s 6th month, Elul 22, 5778 until sunset.

God’s plan to create in Himself one people to be at one with Himself is ongoing. He began to call and choose the linage through whom He would come as “the son of man” from the foundation of the world. The example of Isaac being the son of promise, to whom God would bless and Jacob’s

descendents being over Esau’s is for our learning. (God the Father calls a chosen people for His purpose.) Jesus selected His apostles and the foundations of New Jerusalem were to be named for them before the foundation of the world. Our all knowing creator and sustainer God planned the beginning and ending. He is the architect of the universe.

God’s looking out for His people aren’t always what seems right to us. Seemingly all Jesus’ apostles except John were killed; “John was persecuted and banished to an island.” It was there that Jesus gave John revelations about the unfolding of events in these latter days. (Remember Revelation 13:7; “The beast was permitted to go to war against the Saints and conquer them.”) Satan is taking this world’s populations down the broad path to destruction. Jesus foretold the bad times that are coming.

(Matt 24:9-14; “Then they will hand you “Believers IN Me” over to be persecuted and will kill you. You will be hated by all the nations because of My name. Then many will be led into sin, “lawlessness” and they will betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will appear and deceive many, and because lawlessness will increase so much, the love of many will grow cold. But the person who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole inhabited earth as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.”)

Study Revelation 11: (Two witnesses are going to prophecy.) Through God’s chosen “use of the internet and His message is beginning to go to the whole world.” However His two witnesses seems to be primary. It seems Satan’s concentration is on Judea and God’s church in these latter days.

(Matt 24:15-28; “So when you see the abomination of desolation – spoken about by Daniel the prophet – standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. The one on the roof must not come down to take anything out of his house, and the one in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. For then there will be great suffering unlike anything that has happened from the beginning of the world until now, or ever will happen. And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the Elect those days will be cut short. Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is!’ do not believe him. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the Elect. Remember, I have told you ahead of time. So then, if someone says to you, ‘Look, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe him. For just like the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.”)

The word Israel, means “God fights or God fights for.” Believers IN Jesus are spiritual Israelites - Jews. Followers of Jesus understand that the whole world is deceived. Through Satan’s cunningness he has deceived the many users of Jesus’ name, “people believing that Jesus lived aren‘t necessarily believers IN His message.” The Patriarchs were and all God’s chosen are led to practice a submissive to God life of overcoming to the end.

The Patriarchs were Christ like persons, “called to inherit blessings to be passed to their descendents.” Each believed in the resurrections and knew their ultimate blessing “was to be with God in His future millennial kingdom.” Even Enoch “the seventh from Adam” preached the message. (See Jude 1:14) Knowing God’s Way and practices were gifted to the Patriarchs and Jesus’ apostles; Peter taught Believers IN. (1 Pet 3:8-12; “Finally, all of you “Believers IN” be harmonious, sympathetic, affectionate, compassionate and humble. Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead bless others because you were called to inherit a blessing. For the one who wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit. And he must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and His ears are open to their prayer. But the Lord’s face is against those who do evil. (Quotes from Ps 34:12-16)

We have no record of the Patriarchs teaching or attempting to convert unbelievers in whom they lived among. For example: there is no record of Jacob talking to his father in law,” Laban” about doing away with his little figurine idols. The Patriarchs were led to walk with; “live by God’s Word regarding worship and be submissive to Him regarding good and evil.”

(1Peter 3:13-22; “For who is going to harm you if you are devoted to what is good? But in fact, if you happen to suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. But do not be terrified of them or be shaken.” (Quote from Isa 8:12.)

(15-22; But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess “or hope in you.” Yet do it with courtesy and respect, keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it, than for doing evil. (18) Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit. In it “the spirit” Jesus went and preached to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. In the ark a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water. (21) And this prefigured baptism, “emersion” which now saves you – not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience to God – through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who went into heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels and authorities and powers subject to Him.”)

All things are possible with God. Jesus’ being put to death in the flesh and baptism, “symbolizes putting the fleshly way to death” Now regarding Jesus’ power and authority in the spirit, there is much to consider.

(1Pet 3:19; “In the spirit Jesus went and preached to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed.”)

All things are possible with God. A majority use this text to support their immortality doctrine. That doctrine? “everyone is born to live forever someplace.” Some teach that Jesus went in the spirit to announce His victory over evil to the fallen angels who await judgment for their role in leading the Noah generation into sin. OTHERS teach Christ preached repentance through Noah to the unrighteous humans, now dead and confined to a place of torment. Perhaps understanding all God’s dealings with spirits isn’t for our understanding just yet. (To help us understand God’s power, let’s consider the demonic in relation to spirit power and acknowledge the power God allows Satan.)

We read in Revelations; about God’s allowing demonic powers over rulers in this latter age. (We acknowledge demonic works were prevalent among the non-Israelite people groups during the Patriarch and Moses’ day. God addressed that evil through Moses.)

(Deut 18:9-14; “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, you must not learn the abhorrent practices of those nations. There must never be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, anyone who practices divination, an omen reader, a soothsayer, a sorcerer, one who casts spells, one who conjures up spirits, a practitioner of the occult, or a necromancer. Whoever does these things is abhorrent to the Lord and because of these detestable things the Lord your God is about to drive them out from before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God. Those nations that you are about to dispossess listen to omen readers and diviners, but the Lord your God has not given you permission to do such things.”) (Study this whole chapter)

We have the example of Saul, leaning to witchcraft after God stopped blessing him.

(1Samuel 28:3-25; “Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had lamented over him and had buried him in Ramah, his hometown. In the meantime Saul had removed the mediums and magicians from the land. The Philistines assembled; they came and camped at Shunem. Saul mustered all Israel and camped at Gilboa. When Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was absolutely terrified. So Saul inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him – not by dreams nor by Urimm nor by the prophets. (7) So Saul instructed his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so that I may go to her and inquire of her.” His servants replied to him, “There is a woman who is a medium in Endor.” (8) So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing and left, accompanied by two of his men. They came to the woman at night and said, “Use your ritual pit to conjure up for me the one I tell you.’ But the woman said to him, “Look, you are aware of what Saul has done; he has removed the mediums and magicians from the land! Why are you trapping me, so you can put me to death?” But Saul swore an oath to her by the Lord, “As surely as the Lord lives, you will not incur guilt in this matter!” The woman replied, “Who is it that I should bring up for you?” He said, “Bring up for me Samuel.” (12) When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out loudly. The woman said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!” The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid! What have you seen?” The woman replied to Saul, “I have seen one like a god coming up from the ground!” He said to her, “What about his appearance?” She said, “An old man is coming up! He is wrapped in a robe!” Then Saul realized it was Samuel, and he bowed his face toward the ground and kneeled down. (15) Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul replied, “I am terribly troubled! The Philistines are fighting against me and God has turned away from me. He does not answer me – not by the prophets nor by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what I should do.” Samuel said, “Why are you asking me, now that the Lord has turned away from you and has become your enemy? The Lord has done exactly as I prophesied! The Lord has torn the kingdom from your hand and has given it to your neighbor, David! Since you did not obey the Lord and did not carry out his fierce anger against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this thing to you today. The Lord will hand you and Israel over to the Philistines! Tomorrow both you and your sons will be with me. The Lord will also hand the army of Israel over to the Philistines!” Saul quickly fell full length on the ground and was very afraid because of Samuel’s words. He was completely drained of energy, not having eaten anything all that day and night. When the woman came to Saul and saw how terrified he was, she said to him, “Your servant has done what you asked. I took my life into my own hands and did what you told me. Now it’s your turn to listen to your servant! Let me set before you a bit of bread so that you can eat. When you regain your strength, you can go on your way.” But he refused, saying, “I won’t eat!” Both his servants and the woman urged him to eat, so he gave in. He got up from the ground and sat down on the bed. Now the woman had a well-fed calf at her home that she quickly slaughtered. Taking some flour, she kneaded bread and baked it without leaven. She brought it to Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they arose and left that same night.)

Was this Samuel or a demon posing as Samuel? Either way, the power of demonic forces aren’t something to play with!

The point in sharing this Deuteronomy and “1 Samuel text” is so we may understand that God allowed and still allows demonic forces power when unbelievers submit to them. Acknowledging these demonic powers; we should know that Jesus had no limitations in His going to and preaching to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed.”)

Remember, God is allowing Satan to be the god of this world. (Satan has power to deceive, cause people to believe lies and do miracles. Joseph was put among such people.)
