Paul’s Calling, Teaching and commentary, chapter 15

To: “Churches of God” Called to be Spiritual Israelites, atOne with Jesus. 3/25/19, God’s 13th month 18th day of Adar 2, 5779 until sunset.

Since Adam, the penalty for disobedience covers all procreated people. Even partially procreated Jesus. (Heb 4:14-16; Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.) We each need the spiritual help that only God can gift.

(Rom 5:12-17; “So then, just as sin entered the world through one man ‘Adam’ and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned – for before the law was given, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law. (14) Yet death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam (who is a type of the coming One) transgressed. But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. For if the many died through the transgression of the one man, ‘Adam’ how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the One man Jesus Christ multiply to the many! And the gift is not like the one who sinned. For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, led to condemnation, but the gracious gift from the many failures led to justification. (17) For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ!?”)

We all inherited Adam’s sin nature, “that lets us do what seems right to our fleshly humanity, independent of God’s loving rule of law.” The result of that lawless, “sin nature” is eternal death. (So, what needs to be repented of? What needs to be turned from? Our inherited nature!) Blood sacrifices from Adam’s time, looked forward to “Creator, life giver Jesus’” shed blood for the remission of sin. (Adam, Eve and Cain’s disobediences is recorded for our learning.) It’s recorded that Abel’s blood still speaks to us. Think on that.

Jesus knew hostile people’s rationale regarding obedience. (Matt 23:34-36; “For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town, so that on you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. (36) I tell you the truth, this generation will be held responsible for all these things! Judgment on Israel: Matt 23:37-38; “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it! Look, your house is left to you desolate! For I tell you, you will not see Me from now until you say, ‘Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

(Rom 5:18-21; “Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness leading to life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man ‘Adam’ many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man ‘Jesus’ many will be made righteous. (20) Now the law came in so that the transgression may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more, so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”) The only route to eternal life is through Jesus. We’ll review Paul explaining this when we study, Philippians and Ephesians.

All must ultimately turn from the inherited from Adam lawless nature.

(Rom 6:1-4; “What shall we say then? Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase? Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we, “Believers IN” have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life.”)

Believing IN is demonstrating a discontinuance of willfully sinning and turn to loving God’s Way. Possible through the supernatural imputation of the spirit of truth to our minds, Jesus refers to this miracle as, “being born from above.” That doesn’t mean, “we never sin again” it does mean, “with holy spirit’s help, we stop willfully committing what’s lawless in His View. Turn from behaviors He disapproves of. Once “born from above” “born again” and Jesus’ nature imputed, we aren’t considered sinners in His view.

(Rom 6:5-11; “For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, we will certainly also be united in the likeness of His resurrection. We know that our old man “nature” was crucified with Him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. (For someone who has died has been freed from sin.) (8) “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him. We know that since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to die again; death no longer has mastery over Him. (10) For the death He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life He lives, He lives to God. So you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”) When born from above Lawlessness toward our Creator no longer dominates.

(Rom 6:12-14; “Therefore do not let sin reign, “dominate” in your mortal body so that you obey its desires and do not present your members to sin as instruments to be used for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and your members to God as instruments to be used for righteousness. For sin will have no mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.”) God’s grace is; according to our English dictionary: “the capacity to tolerate, accommodate, or forgive: with God its more.

Believers IN are enslaved to God’s Righteousness. Thus in each apostle’s salutation, they introduce themselves as slaves.

(Rom 6:15-23; “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not! Do you not know that if you present yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness? But thanks be to God that though you were slaves to sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you were entrusted to, and having been freed from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness. (I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with regard to righteousness. (21) So what benefit did you then reap from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end, “result” of those things is death. But now, freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefit leading to sanctification and the end, “result” is eternal life. For the payoff, “result” of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”)

So how is it that all major religions teach some form of Satan’s lie regarding immortality? He said “Surely you’ll not die, for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will open and you will be like divine beings who know good and evil.” (Genesis 3:)

Believers’ relationship to the Law; (Romans 7:1-6; “Or do you not know, brothers and sisters (for I am speaking to those who know the law) that the law is lord over a person as long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of the marriage. (3) So then, if she is joined to another man while her husband is alive, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and if she is joined to another man, she is not an adulteress. So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you could be joined to another, to the One who was raised from the dead, to bear fruit to God. (5) For when we were in the flesh, the sinful desires aroused by the law were active in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. But now we ‘Believers IN Jesus’ have been released from the law, because we have ‘spiritually’ died to what controlled us, so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit and not under the old written code.”) Likewise the covenant Testator ‘Jesus’ died to free we Believers IN Him from the penalty of eternal death, law breaking imposed.

(Hebrews 9:15-27; And so He ‘the resurrected Jesus’ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance He has promised, since He died to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant. (16) For where there is a will, the death of the one who made it must be proven. For a will takes effect only at death, since it carries no force while the one who made it is alive. So even the first covenant was inaugurated with blood. For when Moses had spoken every command to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats with water and scarlet wool and hyssop and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that God has commanded you to keep.” And both the tabernacle and all the utensils of worship he likewise sprinkled with blood. Indeed according to the law almost everything was purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (23) So it was necessary for the sketches of the things in heaven to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves required better sacrifices than these. (24) For ‘Creator’ Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands – the representation of the true sanctuary – but into heaven itself, and He appears now in God’s presence for us. (As Mediator) And He did not enter to offer Himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the sanctuary year after year with blood that is not his own, (26) for then He ‘Jesus’ would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the consummation of the ages to put away sin by His sacrifice. (27) And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment, so also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, to those who eagerly await Him He will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation.”)

The miracle of being born from above, the spirit of truth imputed, produces a genuine love for the spiritual intent of God’s law.
