Eternal Life, chapter 11

To: In home churches of God. God’s 8th month Cheshvan 20, 5,781,  11/7/20

Jesus called Moses to be His servant, ambassador, emissary and one who’d represent Him to His called by promise to Abraham people. Israel was not delivered from Egyptian bondage because of effort, goodness or because they knew their ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Egyptians had long since forgotten the Israelite ‘Joseph’ who’d been made second ruler to the Pharaoh and saved their nation and his family from a disastrous drought some 400 years previously.

Israel’s whole deliverance history pointed to, looked forward to, the Son of God ‘Jesus’ deeds as the Lamb of God who’d shed His blood, be sacrificed for the sins of the world. This prophesied Messiah of Judean ancestry, in the linage of David who’d be named Jesus would ultimately be king of kings who’d deliver a predestined people again. He’d make all His followers spiritual Israelites, inheriting all the promises made to Abraham. He’s their living example of Godly love, Deliverer from sin, their Messiah, Savior, Mediator, the resurrection and coming king of kings.

From Egyptian bondage Jesus Saved all Israel and some believing Egyptians from the death angel who’d be passing over, on that Passover evening; by having them place blood of a lamb or goat over door facings, representing Jesus’ coming as the Messiah and shedding His blood for the remission of sins.

On two occasions Israel was led on dry ground, crossing bodies of water miraculously heaped high which was a baptism, ‘immersion’ representing burial of the old and a covenant agreement. They crossed what was called the red sea going to their desert wondering for 40 years and later the Jordan river in route to the promised lands under Joshua, Jesus’ appointed ambassador.

Israel’s supernatural protection from enemies, blessing of lands through the time of king David and Judges through Samuel’s time, was a partial fulfillment of the meaning of Jacob’s name change to ‘Israel’ which means ‘God fights.’ Also Looking forward to the prophesied millennia deliverance of all Israel from their persecutors around the world. Study Isaiah 22:, 35:, 51:-53:, & 65: Jeremiah 31: & Amos 9:11-15 for starters.

Promises to Abraham included spiritually saving to eternal life through Jesus.

Predestined followers of Jesus like Israel and their deliverance isn’t because of goodness, works or denominational affiliations, but by God gifted desire and effort. Jesus inspired His apostle Paul to explain.

(Phil 2:12-16; So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence, for the One bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort, for the sake of His good pleasure, is God. Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish though you live in a crooked and perverse society, in which you shine as lights in the world by holding on to the word of life so that on the day of Christ I will have a reason to boast that I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.)

The book of Hebrews is to a people recognizing their heavenly calling to God’s Rest.

(Hebrews 3:1-6; Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess, who is faithful to the One who appointed Him, as Moses was also in God’s house. For He, has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself! For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken. But Christ is faithful as a Son over God’s house. We are of His house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in. (See Psalms 95)

Through Moses Jesus built, he was Jesus’ servant but Jesus is the House itself.      Speaking to His followers who He’d make spiritual Israelites Jesus continues. (Heb 3:7-14; Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Oh, that today you would listen as He speaks!Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness. There your fathers tested Me and tried Me, and they saw My works for forty years. Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said, Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known My ways.’ “As I swore in My anger, They will never enter My Rest!’” See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God. But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called “Today,” that none of you may become hardened by sin’s deception. For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence firm until the end.)

Sabbaths look forward to this rest and the capitalizing of ‘TODAY’ in Greek means SABBATH REST. Our Israelite ancestors hardened their minds, rebelled and tested the Lord. They never knew His ways regarding rest from works of the flesh. Called believers in Jesus are partners with Him and have a covenant agreement to overcome to the end.

(Heb 3:15; As it says, Oh, that today you would listen as He speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses’ leadership? And against whom provoked God for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear they would never enter into His Rest, except those who were disobedient? So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.)

Only Joshua and Caleb who left Egypt made it to the promised lands because of their lack of belief in the Lord’s ways. As unbelievers today who aren’t called to believe, these were hostile toward God’s commands, therefore sinned. The Pharisees in Jesus’ earthly teaching days and denominational minded in this age are no different when it comes to understanding God’s way.

(Matthew 12:1-8; At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on a Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pick heads of wheat and eat them. But when the Pharisees saw this they said to Him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath.” He said to them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry – how He entered the house of God and they ate the sacred bread, which was against the law for him or his companions to eat, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that the priests in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are not guilty? I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. If you had known what this means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.)

Jesus is Lord of the REST that’s in Him, His followers are as priests understanding the importance of mercy and sacrifice. Understand that Jesus is the One who gave Moses the law for the people’s good. People who are called by God’s grace know He’s the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:7-9; Remember your leaders, who spoke God’s message to you; reflect on the outcome of their lives and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever! Do not be carried away by all sorts of strange teachings. For it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not ritual meals, which have never benefited those who participated in them.) This Jesus hasn’t revealed Himself to folks thinking He authorized a Sabbath change.

Likewise Jesus gave Moses the seven annual Sabbaths that look back and forward to His Passover, His putting sin out, gifting His Spirit, revealing His return, the resurrection, His millennial rule and Judgment.

(First season: Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread looks to His Sacrificial blood saving the called who believe in, knowing God gives the desire to put sin away.)

(Second season: Pentecost, ‘Feast of First Fruits’ looks forward and back to God’s gifting His Spirit which makes a called people spiritually at one with God.)

(Third season: Trumpets, Atonement, Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day are in God’s seventh month for a reason. Trumpets looks back and forward to when trumpets will sound announcing the first resurrection. Atonement pictures being at one with God. Feast of Tabernacles reminds of our temporary physical lives and to a permanent spiritual life, Jesus’ rule on earth, bringing peace, righteous judgment and Satan being bound for a thousand years. Last Great Day looks to final judgment, God the Father’s coming down with New Jerusalem; God the Son and all submitting to God the Father. God’s weekly and annual Sabbaths are perpetual.)

After Jesus returns, His followers resurrected to spiritual life, and Satan bound, the whole house of Israel will be delivered to the borders promised Abraham, with Jesus’ twelve apostles over the twelve tribes. Their fleshly outlook will be changed to spiritual, hostility will be turned to obedience and soon afterward the nations will come to Israel inquiring about their God.

(Romans 8:6-11; For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace, because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to Him. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is your life because of righteousness. Moreover if the Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the One who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through His Spirit who lives in you) It’s the Way to inherit gifted eternal life.

People are challenged to prove all things and hold to what’s good. (See 1Thess 5:21) Jesus’ Apostle Peter tells us; “Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour.” (See 1Peter 5:8) Satan devours the world by deceiving individuals to believe one or more of his lies. When his lies are incorporated into one’s belief system, truths must be twisted to support them.

Speaking to Israel Jesus inspiring Isaiah to write; (Isa 29:16; Your thinking is perverse! Should the Potter be regarded as clay? Should the thing made say about its Maker, “He didn’t make me”? Or should the pottery say about the Potter, “He doesn’t understand?) & (Isaiah 64:8; Yet, Lord, you are our father. We are the clay, and you are our Potter; we are all the product of Your labor.”)

Study these Isaiah chapters and Jeremiah 18, prove and believe.

Knowing we’re but Potter’s clay is to know humility and be submissive to God’s View in all things. Not accepting His truths define the unbeliever. Generally speaking unbelievers believe Satan’s number one lie, which is ‘God knows you’re born deity to live forever someplace.’ (Re-study Genesis 3:)

Peter‘s first letter is to ‘temporary residents abroad, people called to be Believers in and at One with Jesus in every age.’ They’re the called and CHOSEN according to the foreknowledge of God the Father. People set apart spiritually for OBEDIENCE and for sprinkling with Jesus Christ’s blood. (Review 1Peter 1:1-2) His second letter is from Babylon, Silvanus is likely his secretary and by whom he is sending his letter. Purpose is to encourage Believers in Jesus with the true grace of God and help them stand FAST in The Faith. Its Peters hope for all believers. (Review 1 Peter 5:12-13)
